Sunflowers, spiders and insects…

I spent a while in the garden yesterday with the macro lens whilst there was some beautiful morning sunshine. The weather turned pretty ugly in the afternoon, and I’m kicking myself for not getting off the couch and chase the lightning storms.

The sunflowers that were planted back at the beginning of October are now in full bloom… quite beautiful and detailed. I really love the blue dragonfly as well, it was kind enough to sit still for a minute.

The little spider in the first 2 images below was another shot taken on my car. All the reflections are natural, the only post production on those 2 shots was a little levels correction.

Flowers and Spiders… part one

These few shots are a couple of weeks old… I have been slack on getting them up. I spent a lot of time in the garden today, I have a stack of images to follow up this set of spiders and flowers, I’m going to make time for them tomorrow.

The many faces of Hartley…

I was sorting through a lot of old film based prints I made a few years back at TAFE and realised there were a few that I hadn’t scanned and put up on here.

The subject in the series of portraits shot on a red background is James Hartley, a friend who I met whilst studying photography.  Hartley is an amazing photographer and quite possibly one of the funniest people I have ever met. In this series of portraits, it was simlpy meant to be an exercise demonstrating the visual differences of various fill ratios (fill flash in a 2 flash portrait). However, Hartley decided to pose it up for me and took something mundane and boring and created an interesting sequence of portraits.

I cannot take the creative genius credit for the wooden doll shot. I found the image on the net and as part of a class exercise, reproduced the same still life image (composition and lighting). I have long lost the original to compare it to, but it turned out pretty well I think.

Nightscapes & my cousin Mikayla…

A couple of nights ago the moon caught my eye, and over a period of 15 minutes there was an amazing array of cloud shape size and density, gently floating across the sky. I set the camera up for some long exposures, and surprisingly I didn’t have to do too much touching up for the foreground.

The B&W shots are of my young cousin Mikayla, some times a little shy in front of the camera.

A day at Taronga Zoo…

A couple of weeks back I visited Sydney, and sadly have been too busy to get around to uploading these images any sooner. I spent a day (well half a day) at Taronga Zoo… so much to see with such an amazing array of animals. To anyone who has a day spare in Sydney, I can’t recommend Taronga Zoo enough.

I also was back in Adelaide for a few days after Sydney, a few pics from there to come in the next few days… too many photos, not enough time.
